Altar Servers
/ Ministries / Liturgical / Altar Servers

Altar servers are unordained boys who help the clergy with liturgical duties, such as lighting candles, preparing incense, distributing communion, and assisting the major orders with the liturgy. Altar servers are also often asked to read the epistle. When the liturgy is finished, they also help by distributing prosphora (blessed bread) and the weekly bulletin.

Boys typically become altar servers after they have received the Sacrament of Holy Confession (around the age 7 or 8, or in the second grade). Altar servers are expected to arrive 10 minutes before the start of the liturgy. Please contact the clergy to register your child as an altar server.
