Baptism and Chrismation
A child is generally baptized between 40 days after birth. Age, however, is not a barrier to baptism. The sacrament of chrismation is typically done at the same time as the baptism. One of the two godparents must be a practicing Orthodox Christian. The second godparent must be a Christian, baptized in the name of the Holy Trinity. The child must also have an Orthodox saint’s name (it can be the middle name). Please contact the clergy to request a date for baptism.
Confession
Confessions are usually heard before Divine Liturgy on Sundays, but you may call and schedule a time with the priest, if need be. Children in the second grade (ages 7-8) typically take classes in preparation for First Holy Confession, which is done the Saturday before Pentecost. Please contact the clergy to sign your child up for First Confession classes.
Marriage
The Orthodox Church recognizes only marriages performed in the Orthodox Church. Weddings are customarily not performed during the four fasting periods (St. Philip's Fast, Great Lent, Sts. Peter and Paul Fast, Dormition Fast), from the Nativity through the Feast of Theophany (January 7 to January 19), during Holy Week, or on any of the Major Feast Days. Prior to the wedding, Pre-Cana classes must be done with your spiritual father. Please contact the clergy to request a date for your wedding.
Funerals and Memorials
Memorial services, or panakhydas, are typically done 40 days after the death. Please contact the clergy to notify them of a person's death and to schedule a funeral service.
